Explosive Device Discovered in Cass County Home’s Basement

Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were called to the vicinity of 231st, just west of 291 Highway, on the evening of October 22, 24 after family members reported seeing what seemed to be an explosive ordinance in a family member’s basement.

Deputies on the site asked the Whiteman Air Force Base EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) Team and the Lee’s Summit Police Department Bomb Squad Unit for assistance.

They took the ordinance to the APAC Quarry in rural Harrisonville, which was the safest place in the area. After arriving, troops carefully destroyed all of the hazardous material with a controlled explosion.

Residents in the vicinity were notified of the impending noise through an Everbridge message before to the explosion.
