Driver Faces Charges for Hitting Woman with Car

Vincent Draves, a 19-year-old, is facing charges of Level 5 felony domestic battery in La Porte Circuit Court.

The arrest happened while he was still on probation for a battery conviction in September, which was connected to incidents involving the same woman.

Draves and the woman were reportedly traveling from Michigan City to La Porte on Sunday night, as stated in court documents.

According to the police investigation, it was revealed that the argument between them continued throughout the journey until they reached the residence of two individuals in the vehicle they were dropping off. The incident took place in the 1400 block of W. 18th St. At that moment, one of the individuals attempted to give the woman a hug, but Draves allegedly forcefully pushed her out.

An ambulance rushed her to Northwest Health, as she suffered from intense bruising on her leg and experienced excruciating pain.

Draves potentially faces a prison sentence of up to six years.

Draves was found guilty last month of operating while intoxicated, resulting in a conviction. As a consequence, Draves was sentenced to six months of probation and mandated to complete 10 hours of community service, as stated in court records.
