A man in Independence attacked a gas station customer because he wanted the money in his wallet. The assailant is now facing charges of robbery and assault.
Gregory D. Lastiee Jr., a 29-year-old resident of Grandview, has been charged in connection with the assault of a neighbor, according to court documents filed in the Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
The Independence Police Department responded to a disturbance call at around 7 p.m. on Monday in the 11700 block of E. 23rd St. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with blood coming from his mouth, but he declined medical assistance.
Law enforcement officials have revealed that Lastiee seized the victim’s wallet before swiftly fleeing from the vehicle. However, it took two days for investigators to locate and apprehend him, spotting him in the parking lot of a convenience store. It is worth noting that a gray airsoft pistol was discovered behind a nearby dumpster.
Lastiee denied the allegations, according to investigators. He was then charged with robbery and assault and booked into the Jackson Co. Department of Corrections.
Lastiee is currently in custody, with a bond set at $25,000. A bond review hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30th, followed by a preliminary hearing at 10:30 a.m. on November 18th.
