Manhunt underway for Stephen Chaney, who disappeared ahead of his trial for the murder of Claudia Leiva

Stephen Chaney, as per the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, was released on bond.

The trial proceeded in his absence, and ultimately, he was found guilty of the murder of 21-year-old Claudia Leiva in August 2020. Claudia was discovered fatally shot near a dumpster at a condominium complex located on 102 West Rosamond St.

According to her, Chaney was the one driving a grey Chevrolet Trailblazer.

In October 2022, Chaney faced charges for the murder of Leiva.

He faced charges in Louisiana for reportedly stalking his pregnant girlfriend, who accused Chaney of deceiving her about his identity and using a false name.

In the following weeks, Chaney was apprehended and taken into custody for the murder of Leiva.

Justice for the victims hangs in the balance as Chaney, now a convicted murderer, remains elusive.

According to pre-trial services, he removed his ankle monitor on the night he returned home. Subsequently, his attorneys made several attempts to contact him, but received no response.
